Special Educational Needs

At Harrington Junior School, we believe all children are valued equally, regardless of their abilities, aptitudes, interests and behaviour. Every child is entitled to a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum, with high aspirations for progression and achievement.

At Harrington we cater for pupils with a range of additional or special needs. These include speech, language and communication problems; hearing and visual impairment; social, emotional and behavioural needs; physical disabilities; ADHD and children on the Autistic Spectrum; global or specific learning needs.

We feel it is important to work with families to support and identify Special Educational Needs as early as possible so that specific help can be provided as quickly as possible. We recognise that children make progress at different rates and have different ways in which they learn best. Teachers take this into account and adapt how lessons are structured, how the classroom is organised and the nature of the books/resources given to each child.
