We have now taken up our residency in our new school premises, built through a collaboration with the Local Authority and Concertas and Ashe Construction.
The plans have been based on a modern, bright and airy, single-storey school to house our 240 pupils. Classrooms are spacious independent rooms, with extra spaces for group work and practical activities such as food technology, DT and science. We also have a spacious open-plan resource area to house our library and to allow pupils to access IT.
Our external spaces include two playgrounds, our trim trail, outdoor learning area (OLA) as well as space for play, PE and outdoor learning. Our hall is a fantastic space to allow us to return to have our many social opportunities such as lunches (back to being cooked on site), PE and social events such as assemblies, concerts and fund raising events such as our much-missed bingo and disco nights!
We were delighted that our new school opened to pupils on Monday 5th September 2022. It was a truly special day - one that pupils and staff had long been waiting for. We held special ribbon cutting ceremonies for all classes as they became the first children to enter their classrooms and to be taught in the new school, a new part of the history of Harrington. It has taken a lot of hard work, however we know we have a fantastic learning environment for our pupils and staff to enjoy.
Throughout the first few years we have developed areas, added to the interior and made our school vibrant and stimulating. Pupils report that they love the new facilities, the calm teaching spaces, the wide corridors and the fantastic multiple areas for play and outside learning.
The building work has been developed over a series of programmes - we can see the various stages in the photographs below.
We are now in Phase 3 and 4 of the building programme - this means the roof is being insulated and completed and the internal walls are started to take shape.
Over Easter some major services work will be completed and the external brick work will begin - so we should start to see a lot of progress over the next month. Fingers crossed for continued good weather!
