Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Sports days are set for next week but the following procedures must be adhered to.
Only one person for each child is allowed to attend. No additional children/toddlers are permitted as they count in term of numbers of persons gathering. We are only allowed for 30 to gather at one time, in one area. You will be registered upon arrival to the field gate. There are no seats this year, so be prepared to sit/stand on the grass or bring a rug/seat for yourself.
Parents should arrive no earlier than 1:50 p.m. for access to the field, entry is via Derby Road only. You will not be able to access or cut through the playground.
Each family member will sit in sets relating to the class bubble, separate from other groups and they will need to sit 2m apart from any other parent and keep behind the designated safety line (marked on the grass)
Pupils will arrive for sports day and will run in class groups. We will start at 2:00 p.m. once parents have arrived.
Year 6 Monday 28th June; Year 5 Tuesday 29th June; Year 4 Wednesday 30th June; Year 3 Thursday 1st July.
We aim to finish at 3:00 p.m. You can collect your child from the field and go straight home via Derby Road. If you have other children on campus, your child will return into school and will meet you at 3:15 in the usual manner. Please remember your mask.
If it is raining, the sports day event will not occur.
I realise there are a lot of procedures but this is in line with government requirements and our risk assessment. Please do not attend if you feel unable to adhere to these.
Your co-operation is appreciated and vital to the success of having parent spectators.
Polite reminder - tomorrow (Monday 21st March) is an Inset day. School is closed to pupils but re-opens on Tuesday 22nd March.
Polite reminder that all pupils will be having their class photograph tomorrow afternoon. Year 3 children should come in school uniform and not their PE kit. PE will be altered for them tomorrow but will be back to normal next week.
MESSAGE FROM PUBLIC HEALTH - DERBYSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
Tests are available for people WITHOUT symptoms at our community testing centre inside West Park Leisure Centre on Wilsthorpe Road. It is open Monday to Friday from 7.45am to 7pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 7.45am to 4pm and there’s no need to book.
Anyone WITH coronavirus symptoms or who has got a positive result from a lateral flow test should self-isolate immediately but may leave the house to take a confirmatory PCR test – tests that are sent to a laboratory.
A mobile PCR testing station has been set up in the car park OUTSIDE the leisure centre. This drive-through testing station is open 9am to 3pm daily and will be available for the next few weeks. There is also a walk-in facility for anyone who does not have a car. These tests are by appointment only. You can book a PCR test at this site or order a test to be delivered to your home online or ring NHS 119.
As you will be aware, the next stage in the lifting of COVID restrictions is due to occur today, 17th May. However, due to the extreme level of positive COVID -19 cases in our community (making Erewash one of the highest area in England) we would ask that families take a cautious approach to prevent any further spreading of the virus.
We will still be asking parents to wear face masks when collecting pupils, we will be keeping to our class bubbles, we will be limiting contact between pupils and continuing to use ‘hands-face-space’ procedures.
Pupils will continue to access the playground independently in the mornings, with parents remaining outside of the manned gates.
This is to ensure that we can keep as many classrooms open and avoid further disruption to learning, as well as supporting the health and safety of all of our families.
It is vital that we remain vigilant and monitor any cases of ill-health. If your child becomes ill (regardless of the symptoms) please contact school for advice prior to sending your child to school. We will also be tracking cases in Wilsthorpe School as this will undoubtedly have implications for siblings.
Your co-operation is appreciated.
JOINT STATEMENT FROM PARKLANDS INFANT AND NURSERY SCHOOL AND HARRINGTON JUNIOR SCHOOL.
You will be aware that Wilsthorpe School is currently closed due to the high number of positive COVID-19 cases. The situation is now very serious. The school is to remain closed until Tuesday 11th May and it has asked all pupils to self-isolate. Public Health are aware, as is Derbyshire County Council.
From tomorrow, a PCR testing site will be located at Wilsthorpe School and all pupils and their families have been requested to attend across the next 4 days to be tested between 9:30 and 5:30p.m. This will take the form of both drive-through and walk-in facilities.
This may mean that Harrington and Parklands pupils will need to attend for testing if they have a sibling at Wilsthorpe. TO ASSIST IN KEEPING POSITIVE CASES IN OUR SCHOOLS AS LOW AS POSSIBLE, WE ARE STRONGLY ADVISING THAT ANY PUPIL WITH A SIBLING ATTENDING WILSTHORPE SCHOOL DOES NOT ATTEND OUR SCHOOLS FROM TOMORROW UNTIL THEY HAVE COMPLETED THEIR PCR TEST AND A NEGATIVE RESULT HAS BEEN OBTAINED – USUALLY BETWEEN 1-3 DAYS. We would ask that you share the result with us so that we can get pupils back into school as soon as it is possible and safe to do so. These measures are to help prevent any further spread of coronavirus on our campus and within our community.
Even though this may have a large impact upon our school numbers we feel it is better to stay as safe as we can. We are truly hoping that parents will support this measure, even if it seems extreme, for the next 4 days.
These procedures are supported by both schools.
Given the current outbreak of cases of COVID-19 at Wilsthorpe School, Mrs Callaghan and I are working together to ensure that the campus stays as COVID-free as possible under these difficult circumstances. This will allow our schools to remain open for education.
Please may I reiterate that if your child presents with any of the symptoms of COVID-19, or they appear unwell, DO NOT bring them (OR THEIR SIBLINGS) to either school. We would prefer you to act with caution and keep them off. These absences will be authorised. Those with siblings attending Wilsthorpe School should be closely monitored to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
If your child appears unwell and may have symptoms, we recommend that you book a PCR test for them straight away (not a lateral flow rapid test) and proceed accordingly.
Please be aware that young children do not always present with the ‘official’ symptoms so if in doubt, please act with caution and book a PCR test for them.
We ask that you keep in contact with the school so that any results (positive or negative) can be recorded in line with Public Health regulations.
Please note that school are also acting with caution and if it is suspected that any pupil may have COVID-19, we will contact you to collect your child as promptly as is possible as these pupils will need to be isolated in school in accordance with the COVID risk assessment to prevent cross contamination.
Your co-operation is not only appreciated but also invaluable at this current time
Please remember - we would politely ask all adults to wear a face mask when collecting children at the end of the day or when visiting school. Please keep socially distanced from other families.
Help us to continue to keep the Harrington family safe and healthy.
Please remember that you are required to keep Mrs Wilmot informed of any symptoms linked to a potential case of Coronavirus as we are required to keep a record of all potential cases.
The Department of Education have sent notification that 'parents and carers should inform school (Mrs Wilmot via dojo) of a positive case if either symptoms or a positive lateral flow test occurred within two days of them (the child) being at their education setting'. This would be up to and including Saturday 3rd April. This is so that we can assist in contacting families to advise self-isolation in line with our responsibilities in the Test and Trace process. In this case, you should seek a PCR test within 2 days. The result of this test should also be reported to school.
'Where symptoms or a positive lateral flow test occurred more than two days since they (the child) were last at their education setting' then the family should follow contact instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace. You should seek a PCR test within 2 days. Call 119 to book for this test.
If a positive result is obtained from a PCR test, you will be contacted by email, text or phone from NHS tracing or from your local council. Text messages will be sent from 'NHS tracing', with calls coming from 0300 013 5000 or a local number. This is when you will be asked questions regarding people you may have mixed with 48 hours before you had symptoms or had a positive test.
NO-ONE WILL ASK FOR INFORMATION REGARDING BANK DETAILS, ACCOUNTS OR PASSWORDS.
