  • A busy final week

    Thu 23 Oct 2025 RWilmot

Here at Harrington, it's been 'all go' over the last few weeks with many opportunities to include everyone.

We have hosted an Egyptian tomb discovery day for Year 4 and Miss Bethell has led us to focus on positive mental health as part of our whole school work arising from assemblies. We also met many of our families to continue a positive partnership through parent evening consultations.

Last week we were inspired by Black History Month, with some of our pupils leading an amazing assembly and on to learn about Pablo Fanque and Windrush.

This week has been our whole school writing challenge, entitled 'The Quest'. All classes are working with the same short animated clip to inspire their writing and we will use the end results to identify the strengths and targets for next steps.

Year 5 experienced an enrichment day for their Greek topic on Monday; we welcomed an Indian dancing workshop to celebrate Diwali on Wednesday and today we have our Harvest festival!

I think we can all looking forward to a well deserved half term!

  • Macmillan Cake Sale

    Thu 18 Sep 2025 RWilmot

As is traditional now at Harrington, we will be having a cake sale on
FRIDAY 26th SEPTEMBER at 3.30-4:00pm. in our school hall.

Sadly, many people in our school community have been affected by cancer in one way or another and this event helps us all to show our support and enjoy a yummy piece of cake!!
We are asking for families to help support by donating cakes for us to sell to raise funds for this all important charity. Cake pledges need to be made in advance so we can organise the event and then brought to school on the morning of the event (26th September).
These can be shop bought (in their wrappers) or homemade with a full list of ingredients to help guide the sales. STRICTLY NO NUTS PLEASE.
We will send more details and reminders nearer the time but would really appreciate you letting us know if you feel able to donate cakes or biscuits for this important event.
Any offers of help to sell the cakes would also be appreciated. For both pledges and offers of help, please contact Mrs Wilmot or Miss Milne on the dojo.
Thank you in advance from the Harrington Family.

  • Meet the Teacher

    Thu 18 Sep 2025 RWilmot

We invite all parents/carers to our first parents evening to ‘Meet the Teacher’ at school to commence our partnership work with you.
This will take place on Wednesday 17th September (6:00p.m for Y3 and Y4; 6:45- 7:30p.m. for Y5 and Y6). The event provides you with a chance to meet the staff, see the classrooms and have an overview of what is to be taught, including news on the curriculum and timetable. We encourage all families to attend.
Please note: this is an adult only appointment. Please do not bring your children as there is no child care available at the event.
Both Derby Road and Canal Street entrances will be open for you - please register your attendance in the school hall prior to moving to the classrooms with the teachers.

  • Welcome back!

    Thu 18 Sep 2025 RWilmot

A warm welcome to our new Harrington school year, 2025-26.
It was lovely to have the children back in school, and for some, their first day here at Harrington. And what a great start was made - lots a busy children, settling into the routines and finding their feet in their new classrooms. Well done to you all!

  • Transition Dates

    Mon 30 Jun 2025 RWilmot

Year 3,4 and 5 will commence their transition to their new teachers on the following dates:

    Tuesday 8th July

    Wednesday 9th July

    Tuesday 15th July

  • Year 6 Transition support

    Mon 23 Jun 2025 RWilmot

Reminder is transition for Year 6 tomorrow! Details should have been sent to you via email. We are liaising with more than 1 school and all schools have different requirements.

As a quick summary, KS3 staff have informed me of the following for the 2 main transfer schools:
Wilsthorpe - It is 9.30-2.30 each day (Tue and Wed); please wear normal Harrington uniform; lunch is provided and parents were provided an online form or they can bring packed lunch; no PE kits are needed; staff will provide all equipment needed. I believe a water bottle would be useful too.

Long Eaton - It's 08:45 - 14:50 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please wear normal Harrington uniform; bring a water bottle and pencil case (2 pens - blue or black, pencil, rubber, ruler, pencil sharpener); a snack can be brought if they wish (no nuts at all though); lunch is provided on all three days, but you can bring a packed lunch if required.

Other schools will have sent their lists to the families concerned.

ALL CHILDREN NEED TO MAKE THEIR OWN WAY TO AND FROM SECONDARY SCHOOL. HARRINGTON STAFF DO NOT TAKE ANY PUPILS AS THIS IS AN INDEPENDENT SERIES OF TASTER DAYS FOR TRANSFER.
NO PUPIL SHOULD RETURN TO HARRINGTON AT THE END OF THE DAY.

    Good luck to you all!
